Every place the Hymns name, pinned where it lies (identifications from the Pleiades gazetteer; lands
at a central point, in italics). Places no one can locate (Nysa, Ortygia, Erebos) float, in hollow circles.
Gods, heroes and mortals have no coordinates, so each is placed by the text, in three degrees:
- Home (dark ring, dotted tether): where a hymn says it was born, lives or has its temple, as
Keleos at Eleusis, Anchises on Ida, Pan in Arkadia; the line is cited on each.
- Named near: pulled toward the places named within three lines of it, the more firmly the more
they agree (Artemis toward Klaros and the Meles; Apollo, named everywhere, only gently).
- Free (faded): no place is named near it; only its hymns place it, and its position means little.
Hymns are drawn toward the places they name. Scroll to zoom, drag to pan; labels appear as you zoom.
